About Dave

Hi, I am Dave Testa, a Utica, NY native and resident Information Technologist and Musician. By day, I work at Thomas R. Proctor High School as a Computer Specialist; which entails maintaining, securing, supporting, and troubleshooting the Proctor High School LAN. Additionally, I provide training for various Enterprise Intranet software solutions, and customized configurations to allow for software to work wthin our security policies as the needs may be required.

Growing up, I actually moved to Almond, a small town in Western New York between Alfred (known for Alfred University and Alfred State College), and Hornell. While out in this region, I had some great opportunities to begin my IT learning both from classes and clubs at Alfred Almond Central School, and from discussing programming and curriculum with Alfred Universtiy Computer Science majors (who didn't realize I was a junior and after senior high student). In addition to getting myself involved with anything possible relating to computers and devoting several hours to hacking (the legitimate meaning of the word... not to be confused with the folks involved with cyber crime) and learning programming languages I became heavily attached to music and focused heavily on my guitar playing.

From there, I decided to attend Finger Lakes Community College in Canandigua, NY; receiving my A.S. Music Recording Technology instead of initially going to RIT (given the cost, youch!) for IT. After which, I enrolled in University of Phoenix, and had been in pursuit of a B.S. Information Technology with a concentration in Software Engineering. Future plans and goals include receiving various Cisco, Microsoft, and Oracle (Sun) certifications for Application Servers, Middleware, Java, and MySQL.

IT: Outside of Proctor High School, I am open to various forms of freelance work. Throughout the years, I've been comissioned, volunteered, or interned for IT work. During the summer I am completely open to take on projects, or residential computer jobs. I have worked on and supported a number of technologies over the years ranging from antivirus removal, computer repair, networking, programming and web design. Currently, I am working on CMS (Content Management Systems) and E-Commerce solutions by current client demand.
